Fearless and/or foolhardy, Doug Murphy & Paul Hamilton, for the third time this year, dare to pop their aged pruneskin craniums above the rancid trench of ignominious anonymity they proudly call home to brandish yet another micro-collection of toe-bangers and head-tappers specifically designed to amuse, confuse, enthral and enrage like-minded dreamers and drifters. Their download E.P.’s title, ‘INSTANT COMA!’, is as blithely meaningless or beezer-tappingly, peeper-winkingly all-too-Pop-culturally referential as you – YES! YOU! – deem it to be. The contents too are as silly or serious or satirical as you decide, depending on your state of consciousness. It is not DMPH’s role to tell you what to think and how to feel. No, it is their mission – their emission, in fact – to puke out their ghastly wonders into the world, landing on your musical tastebuds like vomit on velvet. Spit or swallow?
‘INSTANT COMA!’ consists of a trio of songs – ‘Look After’, ‘Born To Rest’ and ‘Thumbs And Fingers’ – with two bonus pieces – ‘Bed Rock’ (the percussion-and-bass rhythm bed of ‘Born To Rest’ which is a soothing borefest) and ‘Far Fetching’. They are HERE on Bandcamp.
DMPH have also managed to secure the services of top-flight video directors, Oltra Cheep & Farrah Leigh Knasty, to produce a pair of filmettes which are half-hearted in execution but full-trousered in conception. You can look over ‘Look After’ HERE and slump along to ‘Born To Rest’ HERE.
