JANUARY 2021
What was it about the Yellowjack recording of ‘Marwar Junction’ (on 2019’s various artists E.P. ‘The Green Book’) that compelled Dave Pope to re-make and re-model it with his pulsating combo THIS LITTLE BADGE? Let’s leave that question for the thinkers, toilers, sod-yers and foilers for this very now and dwell on what has been done that had been left undone…
THIS LITTLE BADGE’s robo-elegiac treatment of ‘Marwar Junction’ throws up synthetic walls of noise, audio metaphoric magic tricks in an attempt to divert us from the authentic sense of loss beating deep in the heart of a nigh-impregnable maze of dead-end distraction and diversion. Clues are sprinkled throughout – some, such as the early-’80s synth-pop beat and the Brian Eno name-drop, are humorous and obvious; others more strategically oblique. The graphic, seen above, provides more reference points, both cultural and cryptic. In untangling the personal and impersonal webs woven by THIS LITTLE BADGE we get to measure the speed of darkness.
‘Marwar Junction’ by THIS LITTLE BADGE will arrive on platform Bandcamp on Tuesday 12th January. Don’t miss this train. Get a ticket and take the trip HERE. For those who prefer to listen with their eyes, click HERE for a free ride.
