BABYLON SQUEAK
Andy Thomson – guitar, bass, keyboards
Paul Hamilton – percussion, voice
Extinguishing the cigarette of significance, exhaling the smoke rings of relevance, Babylon Squeak were the fug of the snug of The Last Gasp Saloon, ignored by the millennial-or-nothing writhing jivers transported by their e-type fags.
The Squeak, as they were called by nobody at all, were an uneasy mix of Thomson’s adherence to bubblegum pop and no-nonsense rock’n’roll, and Hamilton’s art school totally nonsensical pretentiousness (which is a GOOD THING, according to Hamilton: “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with pretending, dressing up and play-acting”). Sometimes it worked very well. And sometimes, well…
Thomson lost his enthusiasm for both making music and Smoking Ant Records (of which he was a co-founder with Hamilton) and hung up his plectrum in January 2021. It was the end of an earache.
